The Washington State Department of Ecology has initiated the scoping process for the PacWest Smelter project.
This is our opportunity to express any and all of our concerns about the smelter. Scoping questions can range from the very technical to the very personal, for example:
** What is the expected change in pH for the Pend Orielle river in 10 years time? How will that affect the bull trout?
** Will the hummingbirds still be coming to my backyard after the smelter is constructed?
** How much earlier will I need to leave for my appointments due to the increased truck traffic?
Please, if you have any questions or concerns, get them in now. The time to do this is limited. Currently, Dept of Ecology will only be accepting our comments and questions from Sept 11 to Oct 11.
You can also help us by asking the Dept of Ecology for an extension of the scoping period by emailing the project manager, Ms. Meg Bommarito ( [email protected]) and asking for an extension to the scoping period. It would be good to put “Pac-West Silicon smelter project scoping” in the subject line.
On Wednesday, Sept 19 at 5:00pm we will be holding a rally in front of Newport Spokane Community College across from Stratton Elementary School Address: 1204 5th St, Newport, WA 99156.
